So I've yet to figure out how to rotate pictures - but these are some horizontal ones I was able to find...
A half-day winter scene in the Smokies. The sun is shining, though, for a pleasant change. And it continued to shine nearly ten days straight after this hour!

Sunset on Max's Patch. It's pretty, huh? One really good thing about balds is the views they provide. Once the leaves grow on the trees for the year, I think out visibility will dramatically decrease again. BUT, the leaves will shade us from the powerful sun...
This is the trail magic scene just below max's patch (clearly were not on the bald because there are plenty of trees). The guy on the far left (cheeseburger, I think) is cooking for us, and the guy next to him is also a trail angel. Most everyone else besides 2 or 3 others are hikers...although these trail angels did thru-hike last year, so technically, they are hikers too. just no current ones.
cool pictures!! i will try to send you some from the cd I copied from your card. love mommy
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures, it was nice talking to you the other day!
ReplyDeleteHello, Steph, great to hear from you and to see the pictures. If my memory serves, the large cleared area on Max Patch mountain was/is an emergency landing field for small airplanes. It may not be active now. Ask around as you come to knowledgeable people, park rangers, etc. and see if this is right.Look forward to your next postings.
ReplyDeleteMuch love, Ginger and Bob
A message to Mommy and Steph's other Blogfollowers.
ReplyDeleteSteph was sighted today (Sunday the third of May). I had the pleasure of giving her a ride back to the trailhead at Highway 19 between Elk Park N.C and Cloudland/Roan Mtn Tenn. She looked fit and healthy and her face shone with the fun and exuberence of being young and on an adventure. Taxi-ing thru hikers is something I get to do quite often from mid April 'til late October and I have never met a hiker yet who was not friendly and Steph was no exception. As she is a young lady travelling alone I did tell her that if she has any emegencies in the next week or so (a week walking the trail is usually less than an hour or so driving) she can contact me or my wife thru this blog, at that point I thought she had some kind of blog upload device with her, blackberry or something, however on reading her blog I see she is making entries from other ppls computers and cyber-cafes. So...in case of emergency Steph, my # is 828 260 7949 and my wife's# is 828 260 7948. Feel free to use either 1 if the need arises.I am Paul and my wife is Cheri.
Good luck to you on your adventure.
Garden Geezer
Thanks Garden Geezer for the sighting report!! I don't worry about Steph but do experience a hugh sense of relief when I hear from her or about her. Thanks again - mommy
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Mommy.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I have done bits and pieces of the trail over the years so we share an affinity with others who are "walking in the woods". We also know how tedious the roads seem, so we are always happy to taxi someone back to the trailhead.
All the best,
GG
Thanks, Garden Geezer, for the update, and thanks for the ride back to the trail head!
